Dear Red River Métis Citizens, Cabinet, and Staff,
As you know, there have been major storms across Manitoba which has caused significant property damage to many Red River Métis families as well as our neighbours, friends, and loved ones. We understand that there is still a possibility of more storms in the coming days and our thoughts are with you all. Please be safe and pay attention to the weather warnings as they come in.
Rest assured, your Red River Métis Government is working diligently to do our part in the emergency response. We are currently working to coordinate with the most affected communities to see how we can support them during these trying times.
If you need support (i.e. food, prescription delivery, pumps, or transportation for those unable to get out of their home), please do not hesitate to reach out via email at EmergencyResponse@MMF.MB.CA or via our emergency hotline at 1-888-362-2012.
If you want to volunteer in the emergency response, please reach out via email at EmergencyVolunteers@MMF.MB.CA or via our emergency hotline at 1-888-362-2012.
Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) directors, managers, and senior staff will be meeting today to organize our MMF staff-led response. As a message to our leadership team reading this letter - please ensure to reach out to your staff to make sure they are safe and see what supports they may need.
We will continue to share updates with you via email and social media. Regional Offices have also been asked to make phone calls and check in with our Citizens.
For those who need mental health supports, please contact the MMF's Mental Wellness Support Line. The line is open every day between 7am-11pm toll-free at 1-833-390-1041 ext. 1.
Lastly, please reach out to our Elders, seniors, and vulnerable Citizens to ensure they are safe during this time.
During times of crisis, our Nation has always come together to work, shoulder-to-shoulder, hand-in-hand, to support each other and our neighbours.
Your President,
David Chartrand
